Emma kom till världen 2003-01-26

Finally it's was time to leave for Stanford Child Hospital. After 9 months the moment we had been waiting for was finally here. The water broke in the morning and we called the hospital to check how urgent it was to get in and they told us that as long as Marianne felt ok it was fine, so we decided to take it easy and pack our bags. When we arrived at the hospital we were well taken care of och we were quickly assigned our delivery room.

It turned out to be a long wait for our baby and we tried to keep our spirits up by fixing Mariannes hair, watching the baby's hart rate, and movements. As a note, this is not a facility for men, but I was fortunate enough to have a plastic sofa to sleep on.

After 18 hours nothing had happened and the doctor told us that we (Marianne) needed to prepare for a cicerean. Everything was setup and after 24 hours they rolled Marianne out to the surgery. Marianne was at this stage very tired and wanted nothing else than to deliver our baby.

FINALLY!! IT'S A GIRL!!
These are the very first pictures of Emma. Emma was born 9:01 am on January 26th, 2003. These pictures were taken 3 minutes later. The delivering nurse's first comment was *She's got attitude" after that Emma had started to scream. Movie (5.2 Mb)
The whole family gathered for the first time. Mom Marianne gives Emma her first hug.

Directly after the delivery Emma was moved to a nursery for check-up and for a first bath. Jonas had to follow Emma while Marianne was moved to a recovery room. Emma is now 30 minutes old. Movie (7.4 Mb)

It's time to go and meet momy, get some food, and just relax!

Finally we are all together and have settled in in our first room, which we shared with another family. Since we were going to stay for another four days Jonas tried to speed up the process for changing to a private room. As long as we stayed in this shared room Jonas was not allowed to stay later than 11 pm.

Our first guest was Susan Feland, and we have no words for all the help we got during these first 36 hours. Susan and her husband John helped us with food, drinks, and they even picked up a car seat for Emma, so that we could bring her home.

I have only one thing to say about this experience: "Fantastic!!"

Yours sincerly,
Jonas (alias Emmas dad)
